Celebrate Int’l Women’s Month: Attend Vagina Monologues in #Detroit March 24th while helping SAFE cc: @mskalyn

March is International Women’s Month and there’s is no better time to support, celebrate and appreciate the women in your life in Detroit, while raising money to support our local domestic violence organizations in Metro Detroit.

The Vagina Monologues introduces a wildly divergent gathering of female voices written by Obie Award winning author, Eve Ensler.

“Ensler breaks taboos by talking, talking and talking some more—stripping fear and shame from what she celebrates here. It makes for quite a party. Funny, outrageous, emotionally affecting, and occasionally angry…The Vagina Monologues confront words to demystify and disarm them. In so doing, Ensler disarms the audience too.”
– Associated Press

Every year V-Day invites activists in colleges, communities, high schools, or youth groups around the world to present select benefit events during and leading up to V-Season (February 1–April 30). The purpose of these events is to raise awareness about violence against women and girls as well as raise money (100% of the proceeds must be donated) for local beneficiaries that are working to end violence. No theater or producing experience is necessary and no royalty fees are charged.

At The International Institute (111 E. Kirby btwn John R & Woodward) in Detroit, Shawn P Entertainment Presents Vagina Monologues 2013 Sunday, March 24, 2013.

When you purchase a ticket in advance for $15 Dollar ticket from Motown Writers Network (below), $5 dollars goes specifically to support our highlighted domestic violence organization SAFE, while the rest of the proceeds go to help other domestic violence organizations around Metro Detroit.

ABOUT S.A.F.E.

Kalyn Risker, Founder and Executive Director of Sisters Acquiring Financial Empowerment (SAFE) is a survivor of domestic violence. In 1998, she was beaten until her eye socket required reconstructive surgery. Kalyn Risker immediately left the situation with her four-year-old daughter, having only a part-time job and needing additional income and health benefits. Prior to her doctor releasing her back to work, she received a full-time position at a payroll company and began building her career. While working full-time, Ms. Risker obtained a Bachelors Business Administration in Human Resource Management. As a Human Resource Manager, she received job applications from women who were missing many of the necessary components to seek employment. Kalyn Risker also supervised many employees that lacked adequate resumes for successful career advancement. Additionally, she met with several workers seeking her department to explain reductions in their productivity, request time off work and other resources to help deal with abuse in their homes. As stated by Kalyn Risker “My experience as a survivor of domestic violence and as a Human Resource Executive led to the idea for SAFE. Although I show no readily visible signs of scarring, I use my personal victory over circumstances to help inspire others into action”.

Sisters Acquiring Financial Empowerment (SAFE) has an accomplished background of actively providing services to survivors of domestic violence in the Southeastern Michigan community since its first Executive Board meeting held May 11, 2006. SAFE has expanded its impact to the community by enlisting volunteers who are experts in the area of the training delivered. SAFE is a part of several anti-violence initiatives within Southeastern Michigan including, Wayne County Council Against Family Violence and Transformation Detroit. SAFE has also participated in rallies and community outreach initiatives to raise the awareness of domestic violence in the Southeastern Michigan community. Sisters Acquiring Financial Empowerment was granted its 501 (c) (3) nonprofit status effective August 8, 2006.

January Fake Writers’ Horoscope 2013 #mwn #fakewritershoroscopes

That character you’re coming up in your head will start appearing in real life. No else will see them except you.

They’ll start appearing in crowds, standing over your bed as you sleep, walking behind you in dark parking lots as you head to your car, in parks staring at you as if you’ve lost your mind…

You’ll be haunted day and night and their name will start appearing in other people’s conversation without you even bringing it up.

Don’t start calling the Exorcist or preacher to bless your Work in progress.

This all just means you have to write faster and finish the book and the haunting should stop… we said should…

Submit guest horoscope w/bio credit

Fake Writer’s Horoscope is a monthly feature sponsored by Motown Writers Network. Got one? Submit it with a short bio and website credit. Make them funny? Serious? Encouraging? Or just plain common sense.
