#MotownLit #PubU #Detroit WCCCD-NW campus.Earn Credits while learning to Publish! #MWN

It’s been years in the making. One of my goals as founder of Motown Writers Network was to have a school where people can go to get education about publishing their work independently.

In collaboration with Wayne County Community College Northwest Campus, I’m proud to say Motown Writers will now be able to offer courses in Writing, Publishing and Marketing. I’m awesomely excited about this opportunity to be able to teach, but also be able to offer college credit to my participants. Continue reading

The Motown Writers’ Network brings the community together!

Monthly Meet Up for writers focuses on the community.

DETROIT – On August 10, 2013 the Motown Writers’ Network (MWN), which holds a monthly Meet Up for Detroit area authors and writers shifts its focus in August to bring awareness to community activities, and raise funds and register people for the MWN November conference.

At the Meet and Greet, representatives from Detroit area non-profits organizations, libraries and authors will speak about their projects and activities and network with the literary community. Those with events for the community to attend will also have the opportunity to speak with leaders in the literary community, meet local authors and share event fliers and materials with attendees.

“In August, we dedicate our monthly writers’ discussion at Barnes and Noble Bookstore to readers, writers and the community,” says Sylvia Hubbard, founder and president of the Motown Writers’ Network and Michigan Literary Network.  “We want to increase awareness of the needs in Metro Detroit and the Meet Up kicks off our conference season leading up to our annual Essence of Motown Literary Jam and Conference in November.”

Hubbard, who often pays for the annual conference largely out of her own purse, asks August Meet and Greet attendees to donate towards the conference. “We are hoping this year to make our writer’s portion of the conference free through grants, but we still need location fees, lunch sponsorships, and other fees.

So we use the Meet and Greet as our initial fundraiser.”

The Literary Meet and Greet includes networking, giving opportunities to strengthen the Metro Detroit literary community, theatrical performances and the chance to win books and reading devices!

The Motown Writers’ Network’s Literary Meet and Greet is 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Barnes and Noble Bookstore on Wayne State University’s Campus, 82 W. Warren in Detroit. For more information and to register visit http://motownmeetgreet13.eventbrite.com/ or call (313) 289-8614.

January Fake Writers’ Horoscope 2013 #mwn #fakewritershoroscopes

That character you’re coming up in your head will start appearing in real life. No else will see them except you.

They’ll start appearing in crowds, standing over your bed as you sleep, walking behind you in dark parking lots as you head to your car, in parks staring at you as if you’ve lost your mind…

You’ll be haunted day and night and their name will start appearing in other people’s conversation without you even bringing it up.

Don’t start calling the Exorcist or preacher to bless your Work in progress.

This all just means you have to write faster and finish the book and the haunting should stop… we said should…

Submit guest horoscope w/bio credit

Fake Writer’s Horoscope is a monthly feature sponsored by Motown Writers Network. Got one? Submit it with a short bio and website credit. Make them funny? Serious? Encouraging? Or just plain common sense.

We’ve had the pleasure of having author, Chris Lee join The Michigan Literary Network on a whirlwind online booktour.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

On a sunny July morning a freak accident changed Chris Lee’s life forever.  In addition to physical injuries, Chris was diagnosed with a mild traumatic brain injury. Years of alcohol abuse, poor eating habits and a newfound addiction to prescription pain-killers thwarted his recovery efforts. His days became filled with group therapy, prescription drugs and the red-tape hassle of an inefficient and inept healthcare system.    He felt hopelessly trapped until he discovered a positive approach to life that would shape and mold him into a better father, husband and person.

Chris gives the reader a brutally honest, soul bearing glimpse into the day-to-day recovery efforts of a brain injury survivor. Follow the author on his gripping journey of self-discovery, self-acceptance and ultimately self-love.  Learn how alternative health and energy therapy changed Chris Lee’s life and how he empowered himself to change his reality for the better.

If we choose not to hear our inner guidance when it’s a whisper, it may take a whack upon the head to get our attention!”
